Josh Woodward - The Simple Life

About This Blog (Click)

Ok, change of pace guys, here's something really nice and mellow.  If you like Matt Pryor then you'll also love this.  There are lots of acoustic tracks with little flourishes like accordions and banjos, and a bunch of almost folk-like songs.  Sure the album is waaaaay to long, but taken in small doses it provides some really calming background music, or a nice addition to a playlist.

Shearer - Discography

About This Blog (Click)

I love gruff vocals - lather on too much polish and I'm sure to overlook it.  For this reason I wasn't likely to overlook Eve when I stumbled upon their discography.  More rock than punk, Eve has an edge that gives them attitude.  Their songs do sound similar upon first listen, but after a few rotations you start seeing them each in their own light.

Houdini Roadshow - Down In The City

About This Blog (Click)

I must say, it was a pleasant surprise finding out about Houdini Roadshow's free album.  These guys play a rough but accessible brand of punk'n roll that's really easy to get into.  I wouldn't be surprised if after this album the Germany based band gets snapped but by the region's dominant independent punk'n roll label, People Like You Records, very soon.  There's lots to like here.  In fact, at this point I wouldn't hesitate to say that this is one of the very best free releases of the year.  Best of luck to these guys.

Loudog - Party Thieves

Good old fashioned ska punk right out of europe.  These guys aren't spectacular, but they do experiment with a nice range of ska related genres and come up with some genuinely interesting arrangements.  Songs like "Politicians" offer some great acoustic sections, while others like "Suzie Blue" showcase their more creative side, creating a very 1950s sound.  There's even a little jazz and swing thrown into the mix for good measure.  At the very least it'll put you in a good mood.

Yo Man Go - Discography

The latest addition to ifyoumakeit's fine growing catalogue of free albums, Yo Man Go almost sounds like something I'd hate, but somehow their songs are inoffensive to my ears.  They're kind of whinny, but at the same time not.  Hard to explain really.  They keep just enough roughness around the edges to maintain an appeal.
