Drag the River - Live at the Starlight

About This Blog (Click)

Drag the River are one of Suburban Home Records' premier country punk outfits.  Because Suburban Home is so awesome they've decided to release a new Drag the River live album free.  It's worth checking out if you like that coarse, grainy country feel.

Higher Giant - Al's Mustache

About This Blog (Click)

Higher Giant is awesome, and Al's Mustache is too.  Just look at that album art, with a mustache like that you just know you have a winner!  Higher Giant formed earlier this year, and I actually reviewed their debut EP earlier this year, so Al's Mustache is a no brainer for me, and it should be for anyone else who loves Bouncing Souls inspired punk rock!  Drop 'em a donation if you're feeling charitable yourself.

Rock, Star - Inamorato

About This Blog (Click)

Rock, Star have a pleasantly sloppy vocal delivery that reminds of The Bouncing Souls without really mimicking them.  I like the shouty feel, it gives it that larger than life feel.  Donate if you like what you hear.

Rock, Star - Inamorato (230 kbps)

Twenty tracks spanning Purpose's eight year, gruff hardcore street-punk styled career.  Pretty standard stuff, but good socially conscious punk none the less.  Donate if you like what you hear.

Static Radio NJ - One For the Good Guys

About This Blog (Click)

Static Radio NJ's earlier EP is rougher and less poppy than their first stuff, but it still pretty enjoyable.  It's a little closer to the hardcore acts I've been reviewing lately, like The Golden Age of Final Fight, so if you like those, give this one a shot.   Drop them a donation if One For the Good Guys EP does anything for ya.

(100th post!) Brighter Shades - You Shine So Bright EP

About This Blog (Click)

100th post!  Holy Crap!  Who would have thought?  It's really been almost two years, but this blog is still up and better than ever!  There was a time back in 2008 where I thought it might not stand the test of time, but here I am, going stronger than ever.  I want to take this time to thank whoever actually reads this blog on occasion, and to let you know that if you've found even one thing on this blog useful, then it's all been worth it to me.  I also have to say thanks to all of the musicians out there who are taking a chance and getting their stuff out there without any guaranteed monetary return.  It's all about the music to you guys, and that's just what the industry needs!  Jamendo, ifyoumakeit, Quote Unquote Records, and all the rest, thanks so much!  Post something in the comments if you feel the need to celebrate!

But no celebration is complete without some legal free music!  So today's post is nothign special, but a nice little pop-punk EP offered from absolutepunk's FREE-P program.  The band is Brighter Shades, and the EP is You Shine So Bright.  It's a pretty catchy one with a nice spectrum of sound and influences.  It isn't your typical pop-punk, and I for one think that's great.  It's a great summer's end EP at the very least.

The Sandwiches - Hitting Refresh to Drop Witty Comments

About This Blog (Click)

The long awaited Sandwiches album is here!  If you use Punknews.org for your daily fix of punk music, then you'll get every reference on here!  It's great stuff, chalk full of witty reference and a great Fat Wreck sounds somewhere between NOFX and No Us for a Name.  Lots of love and care went into this one!  Donate if you like it!

Great sloppy New York punk just the way I like it.  It's got a slight hardcore edge, but wrapped around street-punk sensibilities. The album consists of a eleven tracks, some from EPs, demos, and a few previously unreleased tracks.  Despite their scattered origins, they all work pretty nicely together.  Unfortunately the band has since disbanded, so if you like it, savor it!  If you like it, you can always drop a donation.

Potboiler - Rolling Boil

Used Kids - Yeah No

Woah, these guys sure sound like Husker Du.  But that's  good thing, 'cause there aren't many groups that go for that sound any more.  The album is new and was actually just released through ifyoumakeit.com, which is pretty sweet.  Donate if you like what you hear.

Eric Ayotte - Self Titled

Folk-punk that rocks, that's what this is.  It's like listening to an old one-man hill-billy outfit at your local farmers' market.  Andrew Jackson jihad fans should take note.  If you like what you hear, give 'em a donation.

Fixed Link - One Reason

I while ago someone left a comment wondering what happened to the One Reason releases.  I never got back to them and I apologize for that, but as luck would have it, the band has posted their full length over on ifyoumakeit.  I've updated the post accordingly, and can't recommend the album enough, so check it out!

Latin For Truth - We Are Sick of Not Having The Courage To Be Absolute Nobodies

About This Blog (Click)

Another post I don't have time to fully delve into before I go to bed.  Latin For Truth sound pretty straight forward when it comes to punk rock though, they're melodic, fast, and fun.
