O Pioneers! - Neon Creeps

Only one update today - but it's a great one!  Awesome gruff punk album by a band I've wanted to like for quite a while.  This follow-up to their debut has made that possible.  And to top it off they made it free a month after release!  Hot Water Music fans take note.

Hunt Club - Hunt Club LP

About This Blog (Click)

Hunt Club has crafted a short but great post-punk debut that draws on a little bit of everything.  And I mean everything - there's even a few banjos and accordion flourishes here and there.  Oddly the combination works wonders and makes for an engrossing 20 minute adventure that is anything but predictable.  Recommended for those who want something a little different.

Stamp Collective - The 24 Hour Album

About This Album (Click)

There's a gimmick for appreciating this album, and that is recognizing that it was written and recorded in 24 hours! The band's description does the most justice, so I'll do a simple little copy and paste!  For fans of The Andrew Jackson Jihad for sure!

The Explanation!
10 friends get together at around 1:00 PM. At exactly 2:00 PM, they begin writing and recording an album. By 2:00 PM the next day, they are finished. Listen to the sheer talent and energy that went into each track! Feel the exhaustion and the pride! Taste the bacon, smores, and pancakes in the spirit of each song! Let the music rush into your ears, through your veins, and then let it sit there and get really tired, when it starts making up words and laughing at anything.

The Wagner Logic - Easiest To Grab

About This Blog (Click)

This Saturday's second album will find it's greatest appreciation from fans of experimental punk indie band's like Brand New.  The unique combination of emotional vocals and low key melodies has made this one of my favourite free releases in recent memory.  Consequently I listen to it as much as, if not more, than anything I've purchased recently.  The second track, Ambulance, is an instant classic.  Play this track for some friends and you're guaranteed to have them asking you for the artist name and track title.

The Sheperd Hates Us - Boxing Fox

Europe seems to be the last real holdout for finding interesting new third wave ska bands. Better still, many of them like Boxing Fox release excellent recordings for free on the internet.  The Sheperd Hates Us is a collection of bouncy ska that your older brother probably listened to way back in high school.  It's fun, it's lively, it's third wave ska. Nuff said.

Gordon Melon - Get Better

The next album is a six song EP from a band that sounds something like The Foo Fighters. As a rule I don't like the Foos, but a lot of people out there do, so I just thought I'd throw this out there and see if there are any takers.

Stellar Art Wars

Since my list of free things to post has reached quite the saturation point I'm going to post two albums on Saturdays instead of the usual one!  Yippee!

The first one here is by a group that goes by the intriguing name of Stellar Art Wars.  I can't quite put my finger on it, but they have a familiar vocal sound that almost sounds like a less nasally, and more british version of Billy Joe Armstrong (Green Day) under his Foxboro Hot Tubs persona.  While it's certainly not the greatest thing I've ever promoted on this blog, the group certainly has focus, and sounds waaaay better than the cheesy album art implies.
