Gutter Demons - Live on CJLO

It's no secret that I absolutely love Canadian psychobilly greats the Gutter Demons.  During their brief 2001-2008 career they produced three outstanding albums that showcased the band's unique ability to push the stagnant genre to new territory.  In addition to their three groundbreaking albums, the band also recorded some live sessions while promoting their 2005 album (Room 209) on Montreal's CJLO radio.  The band still hosts these sessions on their now defunct "tripod" hosted homepage (the band migrated to myspace much like every other band out there), but based on the state of the barely functioning site, I doubt the band even knows the songs are still offered.  The live session EP, unofficially titled "Live on CJLO," features three songs from their debut CD, as well as one from their followup effort.  It's an internet rarity worth grabbing while it still exists.

Twiggy - Bitting The Hands That Feed

Jamendo tags this album as "skatecore," and I have to say I'm in complete agreeance. Part hardcore-punk and part skatepunk, Twiggy's free EP is quite the fifteen minute ride.  Fans of rough skatepunk should take notice.

Monica's Lips - Complete

The oddly named Monica's Lips plays a bouncy brand of ska punk with a modern edge.  They're refreshingly relevant for a ska band and retain their composure despite their silly Nicola Sarcevic-like vocals (They're from Finland).  Good stuff overall.

Bandogs - The End Of The Bandogs

The Bandogs are a good example of self produced European pop-punk.  It's simple and straight forward, and has more in common with the Ramones than anything else on that side of the atlantic.  There's nothing spectacular here, but the songs are easy to listen and overall quite competent.

Banner Pilot - Pass the Poison

(Sorry about this post being a day late, so don't worry, I have the next month covered, I just forgot about January 31st apparently.)

About This Blog (Click)

Before Banner Pilot released their critically acclaimed 2008 full length, they put themselves on the map with their 2006 EP, Pass the Poison.  Now it's available for free download over on ifyoumakeit.com.  This is a real steal, kudos to the band for putting this gem up for free.
